Sometimes you come across someone who is really interested in the products that you offer, but (for whatever reason) they just don’t want to book a home party. Rather than just letting them slip through the cracks and get away, why not offer them the option to do a catalog party? A catalog party is a party where your hostess passes out catalogs of your products to her family and friends and takes orders. It can be a great alternative to the traditional home party, especially when you come across objections such as “I don’t have the time or space to host a live party”. Catalog parties can also be an option for consultants who don’t have the time or transportation to do home parties. Below you will find some tips to implement when you do catalog parties to help you make them successful. I hope that they are helpful. Catalog Party Tip #1: Hostess Coach Do not make the mistake of thinking that because your party is not a traditional one that you should treat your hostess any differently. You should still treat this party as an official one. Which means that you need to coach your hostess from beginning to end. Start off by giving her a hostess packet that contains everything that she will need to conduct the party (product catalogs, hostess rewards info, order forms, business cards, etc.) Also be sure to go over everything and answer any questions that she might have. You want to ensure that she feels confident enough to get out there and talk to her friends and family about the party as well as to take any orders. Catalog Party Tip #2: Have a Hostess Rewards Program Another thing that you want to do is make sure that your hostess gets the same hostess rewards that she would have gotten had the party been in her home. You will also want to make sure that she is excited about those hostess rewards since she will have to work a bit harder to earn them. Catalog Party Tip #3: Make Yourself Available When it comes to catalog parties, you are at the disadvantage of not being able to do a live demo. To make up for this, you should make yourself available to your hostess and her friends for answering questions, getting together for one-one-one meetings, or even to do virtual demos online. Catalog Party Tip #4: Play games It is easy to overlook party games when you are doing a catalog party, but they can still be implemented. I like to at least play a hostess game such as Hostess BINGO. I find that playing this type of game can help to boost your party sales. Get creative with booking and recruiting games that you r hostess and her “guests” can play during catalog parties. Catalog Party Tip #5: Follow Up Often Make sure that you follow up with your hostess often during the length of the catalog party. You want to make sure that she and her friends/family don’t have any questions. You should also check in to see if your hostess needs any more materials, such as catalogs or order forms. Catalog Party Tip #6: Ask for Bookings Don’t forget to include information about booking parties and making sure that your hostess’s friends know the benefits of hosting a party. Just because your hostess is unable or unwilling to host a home party does not mean that she doesn’t someone who would want to book one. Catalog Party Tip #7: Include Opportunity Info You should also be sure to include information about your business opportunity as well as let people know how to contact you if they are interested in learning more about joining your team. Some people might even become interested in the business opportunity even more because they see that they can do catalog parties rather than having to do home parties all of the time. Catalog Party Tip #8: Have a Party Closing Date One thing that people sometimes make the mistake of doing is letting the catalog party go on indefinitely. However, this is not beneficial to anyone. You should set a date that all orders must be turned in. This keeps everyone focused and helps to get them to take action. If you don’t have a closing date, people might put off their order indefinitely. Not to mention it would not be fair to the people who placed their orders in a timely manner. I generally keep my parties open for one week once the hostess gets her materials. Catalog Party Tip #9: Make the Deliveries Yourself When the orders come in, if you are local, rather than giving all of the orders to the hostess to distribute, make an effort to deliver them yourself. This gives you the opportunity to meet and talk to all of your customers in person so that you can answer any questions that they may have and talk to them about booking a party or joining your team. Catalog Party Tip #10: Send Thank You Cards Once your party is over, make sure that you send thank you cards to all of your customers. Use this opportunity to remind them of your website and your contact information. Have you ever had a catalog party? How did it go?
