Regardless of which company you have aligned yourself with, home parties can be a fantastic way to have fun, meet new people, and generate lots of eager customers. However, in order to have a successful home party, there are a few things that you need to do. Today I want to walk you through the steps to throwing a successful home party. I am confident that if you follow these steps, you will be well on your way to being a home party rock star. Step #1: Know Your Products This may seem like an obvious thing, but a lot of people seem to forget how critical it is to having a successful party. When you are telling people about your products, you need to know them like the back of your hand. You need to be able to highlight their uses and their benefits. You need to know how they work and be aware of their ingredients (especially if they are something that you ingest or apply to your body – you never know if someone has an allergy). You need to know how to match a person up with the product that will best fit their specific needs. It is not enough to simply know a 10 second commercial’s worth of information about the product. I recommend that you become an expert on every product or service that you offer. People feel more comfortable buying something from someone who can show that they know what they are talking about. Step #2: Have a Killer Hostess Rewards Program In order to throw a successful home party, you need a hostess. And in order to convince someone to open up their homes and spend an hour or two with you, you need to let them know what THEY get out of the deal. After all, they’re not going to care about helping you make some money. They want to know how they will benefit. That is when your hostess rewards program comes into play. Anyone who serves as a hostess for you should be rewarded with something that makes it worth their time. This could be free products, great discounts, extra gifts from you, etc. A lot of companies have hostess rewards programs in pace that you can utilize or even supplement. If your company does not offer one, you should take some time to think of ways that you can reward your hostesses for helping you out by booking a party. Step #3: Coach Your Hostess for Success Once you have a hostess secured, you need to make sure that she knows exactly what is expected of her. Her job is to spread the word about the upcoming party, get people excited about coming and ordering, and making sure they actually show up. I always recommend that you have hostess coaching packets ready to give to them. These packets should include any information that they will need. Info about the hostess rewards, a guest list, invitations or invitation verbiage, any games that you want her to play to earn even more rewards, etc. You should also be sure to check in with her periodically in the weeks and days leading up to the party to get updates on how many guests to expect. If you fail to coach your hostess, don’t be surprised if you show up to a party of 2 (or if she cancels at the last minute because she forgot or no one is coming). Step #4: Have All of Your Supplies on Hand There is very little that is worse than coming to a party unprepared. Not only does it make you appear less than the professional that you are, it can also cause you to lose confidence, steam, and (ultimately) potential customers/ team members. The day before your party double and triple check your list to make sure that you have everything that you need: hostess coaching packages, your hostess gift(s), booking packets (we will discuss this later), your demo products including any necessary accessories, anything that you need to process orders, your inventory, etc. You want to be at the party fully prepared for anything. Step #5: Make it Fun Your hostess and guests are coming to a home party. Make sure that they actually have fun. No one wants to show up and just sit through a boring presentation. Liven it up! Make them laugh. Play a couple of games. Get the involved. Show them your personality and let them see how fun and easy it can be to do what you do. Step #6: Don’t Just Do a Demo – Tell a Story I have been to parties in the past where the demonstration was very straightforward and matter of fact. The person highlighted the benefits of the products and explained how to use them. Things were passed around, tasted, smelled, etc. It was very informative. But you know what else it was? Boring. There was no pep in the presentation. It didn’t get me excited to order. What I recommend is that you tell stories when you are talking about your products. Talk about your experience with the products and how they have impacted your life. Share testimonials from other people who have used the products. Step #7: Plant Booking & Recruiting Seeds When you do a party, your goal is more than to just make a few sales. You also want to walk away with new hostesses and with potential team members. Make sure you highlight the benefits of booking a party and joining your team. You can do this by playing games or simply saying things like “How would you like to get this for free? You can if you book a party” or “How would you like to make money by doing parties like this one? Join my team and you can make it happen.” Step #8: Upsell with Packages One great way to get big sales at parties is to have packages available for people to order. If you know that two or three products go well together, offer them as a package and knock off a couple of dollars. That way you give them the sense of saving money and you might get a sale that you otherwise wouldn’t have gotten. Step #9: Ask for What You Want Don’t be afraid to ask people to place an order or join your team. Sometimes they want to, but for some reason they don’t. By asking them to, you give them permission to take action. Or, at the very least, you can open up a chance to dialogue about their options. Step #10: Say Thank You You should always thank them. The hostess and the guests. I love to send out cards to my hostess and her party guests to thank them for their time and to let them know how they can contact me if they need me. Simple touches like that can take you a long way.
